Who we are
Cooperatives providing community services are autonomous associations of persons united voluntarily to meet common fundamental needs through a jointly-owned and democratically-controlled enterprise. You will find those cooperatives in the areas of health, housing, environment, education, social services or reintegration of disadvantaged and marginalised people.
Each member of the cooperative has a say, deciding together the present and the future of the enterprise. As a matter of fact and based on the available information, it is estimated that at least 12,600 cooperatives active in the provision of social services and 2,100 schools are run as cooperatives.
